The students in G4 spent the afternoon inquiring into how exercise affects their heart rate. They particpated in 3 different types of sporting activities and compared their resting heart rate with their heart rate immediately after they had participated in exercise. They then looked at which exercises show an increase in their heart rate and looked at the differences using addition and subtraction strategies.
Students spent last week preparing Interview questions to ask various teachers and members of the ISS Community about Waste Management. After looking at ways to create GOOD interview questions and how to ask open ended questions, which will allow the interviewee to respond with a lot of information; the students made connections with the Central Idea and the key concepts of PERSPECTIVE and RESPONSIBILITY in preparing for their Interviews. Here are some examples of the questions that the students asked...
How does ISS promote responsible waste management?
What systems do we have in place in ISS for our waste?
What do you think about the food waste in the canteen?
Do you think ISS is responsible about their waste management? Explain how and why?

Ms Rehu was blown away with students inquiries into Data Handling. After several weeks of looking at the Data Handling process, the students were able to apply what they had learnt in class to a personal inquiry. The students worked independently, in pairs and in small groups to produce a visual to show what they had been learning about in this math unit. They made several connections with the math vocabulary associated with Data and demonstrated their understanding by using pictures, graphs, key words and sentences to explain the process they went through.
The G4.2 students were blown away by the math board games that the G1 students had created for them! The G1 students created board games related to the four operations in Math. The students in G4.2 returned the favor by sharing some of their persuasive writing. They made several connections about responsible waste management in their writing and showed lots of persuasive language to support their view points and reasons.
